Install the CounterPlate Plus Bracket in Just a Few Simple Steps
For all of the benefits that our commercial customers enjoy when using our popular CounterBalance brackets, you might think that the innovative plates require a complicated installation. Actually, installing our CounterBalance brackets isn’t nearly as challenging as you might think. When our team designed these brackets, they achieved a balance of offering superior countertop support with simplified installation.
Let’s focus in on the six installation steps necessary with the CounterPlate Plus bracket. The CounterPlate Plus is designed to attach to half walls or pony walls, supporting overhangs on “breakfast bar” style countertops. This ”L” shaped bracket ties in to the vertical wall studs for improved strength and stability.
Six Simple Installation Steps for CounterPlatePlus Bracket
- Set a circular saw to a depth of 1″ and cut a 1/4″ wide crosscut notch in the top of the header board where the bracket will be located to accept the spine of the bracket.
- Carefully test, and fit the bracket in the notch and trace its shape on top and back of stud wall for routing. Place plate where support is needed and trace the shape onto the stud wall.
- Using the router with a 1/4″ bit, router out the traced shape on the top and rear of the stud wall. (Note: you may need to cut out a section of drywall from the rear side of the wall to complete this.)
- Place the plate into the routered area and mark holes for drilling, then remove the plate.
- Drill pilot holes and place the plate back into position and attach with the provided screws.
- Conceal the rear flange of the bracket with back-splash or repair drywall.
Apply a silicone sealant (such as Bondaflex 100 or Chem-set™ RTV 4500) to the top of the brackets to secure them to the underside of the counter surface and set countertop into position.
Simply repeat these steps as necessary for additional plates.
