In many aspects of the construction industry, bonding dissimilar substrates is common practice. However, many adhesives are ill-equipped to deal with differing rates of expansion and contraction, often leading to a shortened bond life or premature bond failure.

What is TrimGrip?

First thing’s first: what IS TrimGrip? At its core, TrimGrip is a structural methyl-methacrylate adhesive, or structural acrylic adhesive. It is ideal for filling gaps and joints, bonding dissimilar substrates, and filling voids in all synthetic wood products.

Acrylic adhesives are ideal for bonding non-porous substrates and are essentially seen as an alternative to welding. Some of TrimGrip’s most popular features include:

• Cures in 30 minutes

With correct surface preparation, TrimGrip can be applied to nearly any substrate. Simply lightly buff both substrates and wipe them off with acetone or isopropyl alcohol before applying TrimGrip! With adequate preparation, TrimGrip can have a tensile shear of 2,354 psi when bonding like substrates.

We also show 586 psi (CPVC) and 1,300 psu (PVC) with 5-15% elongation. The elongation helps show there is room for differing rates of expansion and contraction. This is what makes TrimGrip unique; different substrates expand and contract at different rates, which can cause bond failure with many adhesives. TrimGrip can adjust to different rates of expansion and contraction without compromising the bond strength.
