Permatex is as well known a name as any in the adhesives industry and its products can often be seen on shelves in many a hardware or auto supply store. In fact, it specializes in the automotive industry, producing trusted sealants, cleaners, lubricants, thread compounds, and gasket makers for car enthusiasts and mechanics alike. We’ll highlight some of these products in today’s blog, which we distribute with pleasure at Chemical Concepts, in our tribute to Permatex adhesives and sealants.

The Products

The Permatex Permanent Strength Threadlocker (Red) is a threadlocking compound designed for firming up parts that must endure the rigors of heavy shock, vibration, and extreme environmental and chemical conditions. This type of Permanent Strength solution should be applied to 3/8” to 1” fasteners before assembly to ensure an uncompromising hold.

The Permatex Blue RTV Silicone Gasket Maker is the “formed-in-place” gasket maker of choice. Using Blue RTV means that shrinking, cracking, and migrating is a rarity once cured, as opposed to a common obstacle with other methods of gaskets. As this product cures it forms a strong, extremely pliable/elastic rubber that seals flanges against leaks, and resists oil and other fluids. Blue RTV is tested to withstand temperatures ranging from -65 degrees F to 500 degrees F, a truly extraordinary range of extreme cold to extreme heat.

• Can easily make cut gaskets in all shapes and sizes
• Can be used on rigid or flexible flanges
• Due to its versatility, it can combat against the costly inventory of cut gaskets

The Permatex #82 Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive is not only highly resistant to water and weather, but also to gasoline, kerosene, antifreeze, and many solvents, which are customary to the automotive environment. This weatherstrip adhesive, which is black in color, blends with automotive weatherstripping to streamline the clean-up process.

The Permatex #771 Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant guards against the seizing and galling of metal parts at temperatures up to 2400 degrees F. In circumstances where copper contamination must be avoided at all costs, the 771 is the lubricant to use. It’s also advantageous for situations of extreme pressure and temperature, and with stainless steel, titanium, and nickel alloy materials.

You may not think of the famous Fast Orange cleaner and degreaser when you think of Permatex, but it is, in fact, a product of their brand. Permatex’s Fast Orange Hand Cleaner is a heavy duty and biodegradable hand cleaner that’s tough yet completely free of harsh chemicals. This waterless, solvent-free solution that’s totally free of mineral oils and ammonia, which can sting cuts and abrasions on working hands, is the perfect complement to any garage or shop. Fast Orange pumice formula deep cleans dirt, grease, and grit yet is gentle enough to soothe and heal, as it contains aloe, glycerin, lanolin, and jojoba.
